A baroque palace dating back to 1722, and home to the German Music Box Museum.

In this idyllically situated park a variety of different animals are kept in large enclosures, stables and aviaries: Goats, ponies, donkeys, fallow deer, mouflons, alpacas, maras, ostriches, ibexes and various bird species. In addition, there is probably the largest free-living white stork colony in Germany, if not in Europe: 20 to 30 pairs of white storks live and breed here. 
 

The Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe is a theatre and opera house in Karlsruhe, Germany. The Staatstheater is a Dreisparten venue, housing three performance genres: musical theatre, ballet and theatre, as well as the studio stage in Karlstraße. The Badische Staatskapelle (orchestra) and the Badische Staatsopernchor (opera chorus) are resident companies of the theatre.

Splendid flowers all year round: The Botanical Gardens were established in the 19th century as a green oasis for marquises and grand dukes on the edge of Karlsruhe Palace Gardens. Today, the botanical garden in the centre of the city is a recreational area for tourists and locals alike. The Basler Torturm in Durlach, a district of Karlsruhe in northern Baden-Württemberg, is the last surviving city gate of the former margravial residence. The gate tower is a protected cultural monument. The gate is named after the city of Basel because it used to be the access to the Poststrasse and Heerstrasse to Basel.

The Marktplatz is the most well-known square in the fan-shaped city. It forms the core of Karlsruhe’s city centre and is the crux of the urban cultural scene in Karlsruhe, alongside Kaiserstraße.

The Centre for Art and Media (ZKM) is a unique cultural institution located in a listed industrial building of a former munitions factory in Karlsruhe. Bringing together all media and artistic genres, ZKM was founded in 1989 with the aim of uniting classical art with the digital age. Here you can immerse yourself in painting, photography and sculpture, and enjoy film, video, music and performance. 

Karlsruhe Palace was built in the Baroque style from 1715 as the residence of Margrave Karl Wilhelm von Baden-Durlach. It was the residence of the margraves and grand dukes of Baden until 1918. Today it houses the Baden State Museum and part of the Federal Constitutional Court. Here you can experience a cultural institution in the centre of the fan-shaped city and on the edge of the Hardtwald forest. 

The State Museum of Natural History in Karlsruhe is fascinating for all ages. The museum houses a variety of exhibitions and the vivarium showcases local and exotic fauna and flora in life-like settings.

The ‘Platz der Grund­rech­te’ was laid in 2005 between the perimeter road called Zirkel and Schloss­platz (the palace square). Walking through the pedestrian zone, it can be found between Marktplatz and the palace. The square is dotted with 24 double-sided street signs, each describing an important aspect of right and wrong – complete with statements made by judges, lawyers and common citizens who have come into conflict with German law.

The Turmberg is the local hill of Durlach, the former royal seat of Baden. It is 256 metres high and forms the nortwesternmost peak of the Black Forest at the transition between the low maintain range and the hilly landscape of the Kraichgau region.
