Karlsplatz or Stachus is an important and well-known square in Munich. It marks the western entrance to the pedestrian zone and is an important junction for Munich's public transport system. The Stachus is still one of the busiest squares in Europe, even though cars have not crossed it since 1972. There are stops here for trams, undergrounds, buses and S-Bahns, which travel from the Stachus to almost every destination in Munich. In summer, the Stachus fountain is in operation.
