Strünkede Castle is a moated castle in the Baukau district of Herne in the middle of an extensive castle park. Until the end of the 18th century, the castle was the seat of the baronial von Strünkede family. Since 1938, the Emschertal Museum has been home to cultural and urban history collections.

The Recklinghausen Icon Museum opened in 1956, invites you on a journey into the world of images of Eastern Church art. It houses over 4,000 icons, embroideries, miniatures, and wood and metal works from Russia, Greece, and other countries of the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean. The Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum – founded in 1930 – is one of eight research museums belonging to the Leibniz Association.
