The "Porta Praetoria" is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Regensburg. In Roman times it formed the north portal of the Roman legionnaires' camp "Castra Regina" as a so-called "outlet gate" and can therefore be estimated to be almost 2000 years old. This makes the "Porta Praetoria", together with the "Porta Nigra", the northern city gate of Trier, the only preserved Roman gate north of the Alps. When the old Roman camp road - the "via praetoria" - was built over in the Middle Ages for reasons of space, the Roman camp portals were almost forgotten.

The Regensburg Cathedral of St. Peter is one of the most important Gothic achievements in Bavaria. With its towers visible from afar, the cathedral is the focal point of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Regensburg. The colorful stained glass windows from the 13th and 14th centuries are impressive. Century. The cloister, once the burial place of Regensburg citizens and canons, is primarily characterized by the Gothic ribbed vaulting from the 15th century. The Neupfarrkirche is a Protestant parish church on Neupfarrplatz in the old town of Regensburg. Originally planned as a Catholic pilgrimage church, construction began after the destruction of the Jewish Quarter in 1519. With the high income from the initially turbulent pilgrimage, the construction of a large Catholic pilgrimage church should be financed. When it became apparent later, with the decline in pilgrimages, that the financing of the Catholic church building was no longer secured due to a lack of income, the construction of the church was stopped. The financing of the provisional completion of the church was negotiated between the two involved or interested parties and then taken over by the imperial city of Regensburg, which wanted to use the church as a new Protestant church after the introduction of the Reformation.

Haidplatz is one of the oldest and most traditional squares in Regensburg's historic old town. It has its origins in an elongated triangular meadow ("heath") west of the former Roman fort. Over the centuries, magnificent buildings were erected here, celebrities began to pass the doorstep and the people of Regensburg celebrated spectacular festivals.

On a visit to Regensburg, you should not miss it: A masterpiece of medieval architecture in Germany - the stone bridge. Alongside the Regensburg Cathedral, it is the city's most important landmark and was certainly one of the reasons why Regensburg was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Stone Bridge, which connects the old Bavarian district of Stadtamhof with the old town of Regensburg, was considered a real wonder of the world in the Middle Ages. It was built in just 11 years, probably between 1135 and 1146. The brisk trade in Regensburg, an important economic center in the Middle Ages, required the permanent river crossing. So the council and citizens decided to erect the building. For almost 800 years, until 1935, it remained the only bridge that served as a reliable Danube crossing in Regensburg and in the wider area.

In a high position dominating the surrounding landscape, the Walhalla rises above the Danube near Regensburg. With this classical building in the form of a temple surrounded by columns, one of the most important German national monuments of the 19th century was commissioned by the Bavarian King Ludwig I (ruled 1825-1848).
