The Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt has its roots in an historical castle, which was converted into the world’s oldest military school in 1751 by the empress Maria Theresia. Originally conceived as a training facility for 200 persons (including nobles and commoners), this academy would develop into a central training facility for officers of the Habsburg Reich. It continues this tradition today, and trains a new generation of well-educated men and women every year. Visitors interested as to the significance of the acronym AEIOU, solidified by Kaiser Friedrich III, may find a possible interpretation of it during a guided tour of the facility.
