The Wels Zoo is a park and zoo located in the city of Wels. It is the oldest zoo in Upper Austria, covering 28,000 m² and home to 650 animals. A wonderful place to enjoy nature and animals.

The Wels Horse Racing Club was founded in 1892. During the summer and autumn seasons, you can watch an average of eight horse races per race day and place bets. The most striking feature of harness racing is the sulky, in which the driver, closely following his horse, thunders around the track at speeds of up to 60 km/h. Harness racing is not only driven, but also ridden.
In the summer, the harness racing track also serves as a venue for open-air concerts.
Location & surroundings
Welios is Austria's first science center, covering 3,000 m². This science center is an interactive museum with over 120 hands-on exhibits and offers displays on science and technology.
The Leatherworkers' Tower was built in the 13th century, first documented in 1326, and rebuilt in 1619. The tower's current form dates back to this period. The leatherworkers' guild, which was located in the western suburb in the immediate vicinity of the tower, gave it its name.
The Bavarian dukes of the Agilolfing dynasty built Wels Castle to protect the Traun crossing; its origins are unclear. Located in the southeast corner of the walled medieval town, the castle is first mentioned in connection with the settlement of Wels in 776.
